Donner DC 87 Studio Condenser Microphone with Two Diaphragms for Podcast and Recording

The Donner DC-87 is a studio condenser wide-diaphragm microphone. It uses a capsule with two diaphragms that provide three polar patterns. The microphone comes with a flexible gimbal, pop filter, and connection wire, allowing you to start recording after purchase. There is no doubt that Donner was inspired by the legendary Neumann U87 when creating its microphone. This is confirmed by the numbers in the name and certain external similarities. The DC-87’s elongated one-piece metal body with a thickening at the top and a protective mesh with a characteristic tapered design are a bit reminiscent of microphones from the German manufacturer. In our opinion, there is nothing reprehensible in this. Let the appearance of the microphone repeat the legendary model rather than be pretentious or ridiculous. On the front of the microphone there is a switch that changes the polar patterns.

Thanks to the use of two diaphragms, the microphone has three modes – figure-of-eight, cardioid and omnidirectional pattern, which switch between each other in a fixed manner. On the back side there is an attenuator toggle switch, which allows you to reduce the sensitivity of the microphone by 10 dB, and a trimming filter. Based on the specification, it uses a first-order filter with a slope of 6 dB per octave, tuned to 80 Hz.
