Years of drum set making experience and expertise went into developing this brand new line of drums. Each drum is finished in one of three durable lacquer colors and utfitted with a newly-designed low mass mini turret lug. Snares include an artist-approved MAG throw-off and all drums feature True Pitch Tuning and DW heads by Remo. Add to that a selection of DW’s most popular F.A.S.T. sizes and our STM mounting system. The DW Design series empowers drummers of all stripes to take a seat behind a deluxe set of shells appointed with premium hardware. In turn, timekeepers will quickly find standard drum sessions transform into studio-grade performances. 

Just ask any drummer here, North American hard-rock maple is the key; it’s plied across the board eight times using DW’s proprietary HVLT alternating-ply construction protocol, resulting in a sound that’s warm, definitive, powerful, and rooted in tradition. Low-mass mini turret lugs, triple-flanged hoops, and True Pitch tension rods give the Design series exceptional tuning flexibility and resonance preservation, the latter factor further enhanced by an included pair of DW’s iconic and deco-esque suspension tom mounts. With elements so extravagant and rock-steadily dependable, it’s hard to believe that the Design series is DW’s entrance-level shell pack!

When it comes to drum tonewoods, few can hold a candle to the traditional beat of a maple kit like the Design series from DW. That’s because maple provides a very warm foundational tone overall, presenting excellent definition and punch to excel in just about any mix you place it in, live or in the studio. It’s also sensitive enough to catch on to those nuances that make your sound uniquely you without drying out the tone so much that it loses presence. Knowing that DW gave the Design series a full-fledged 8-ply maple shell set formed using the company’s exclusive alternating grain HVLT process, you can rest assured each drum will sing with a strong and tonally pure sound.

In addition to its tonal character, DW also optioned the Design series with carefully cut 45-degree bearing edges across the toms and 60-degree bearing edges for the bass drum. Why does this make a difference? At 45 degrees, each tom engages with the vibration of the batter head with perfectly balanced responsiveness, allowing the player to extract the most energy from both elements. For the bass drum, a 60-degree bearing edge helps further enhance the punch and low-end presence for a backbeat that lands with absolute authority.
